Play
Wilfred Bion, a pioneering psychoanalyst, viewed play as essential to emotional and cognitive development because it creates a space where raw, unprocessed experiences can be transformed into meaningful thoughts. Through playful interaction, especially between infant and caregiver, feelings that might otherwise be overwhelming are contained, symbolized, and gradually understood. This process helps build the capacity for thinking itself, allowing the mind to tolerate uncertainty and complexity. In this sense, play is not merely recreational but a foundational activity through which the psyche learns to process reality, develop resilience, and form deeper emotional connections.
